Mission Statement:
The Children’s Dance Theater Connection is a non-profit corporation based in the greater Hartford area. Its mission is to:
1) train a company of young people between the ages of five and eighteen in dance, acting and theatrical production skills in order to bring interactive, live performances to audiences
2) provide opportunities for creative self-expression for children through classes, workshops, performances and other outreach activities
What is Children’s Dance Theater Connection?
Our Company is a non-profit organization dedicated to training dance/theater artists in order to present performances, workshops and classes to the public and to children. We also do special outreach performances for children who may have socio-economic, educational or physical challenges.
What dance training does the CDTC Company School offer?
The Company School offers classes in classical ballet, tap, theater jazz and theater. We also offer special dance choreography and theater workshops intended to provide our students a varied and rich dance experience.
How do I become a member of CDTC?
Students are evaluated on an intermediate/advanced level of dance proficiency in ballet, tap, jazz or modern dance. Once they demonstrate a certain level of proficiency, they are invited to join the Company. Classes are conducted in Southington and New Britain.
How expensive are tuition and other fees?
Tuition and fees for Company School classes are competitively priced. Company members get substantial discounts on special individual coaching for solos and specialty parts.
When does the Company School perform?
The Company School performs in “A Children’s Nutcracker” during the Christmas holiday season and a special production in the spring. It may also perform at other times with CDTC during the dance year as opportunities are presented.
Who runs CDTC?
CDTC is run by a Board of Directors who are dedicated to upholding the goals and policies of our Mission Statement. They also represent all those who participate in the Company.
Our founder and executive artistic director is Patricia B. Martin, who has owned and operated dance studios in Central Connecticut for over 25 years. She has worked as a choreographer with numerous theater companies including Torrington Players, Repertory Theater of New Britain and Theater at Central Connecticut State University. Among the shows she has choreographed are Man of La Mancha, Carousel, Oklahoma, Grease and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Ms Martin is the past secretary of the Dance Teachers Club of Connecticut.
